Self-Portrait Project
For this self-portrait project, I chose to do low-poly. In hindsight, I probably should have chosen something less time-consuming, but it turned out to be a good challenge for me to complete.
I chose a low-poly portrait because the process of creating a low-poly piece from a photograph is time-consuming and highly detailed. As an individual, I tend to bite off more than I can chew when it comes to projects. I will put in much more work than is required, and I will focus heavily on each and every detail along the way. Photography is one of my main skills, so basing a digital art piece off of a photo of myself was interesting.
This self-portrait is representative of me, both literally and figuratively. Obviously, this is a picture of me, albeit an old one. So in the literal sense it is representative of myself. Figuratively, however, this project took a number of hours to complete and involved a lot of detail work. In a sense I abstracted the reality of the image and turned it into a geometric representation of myself, which is what I like to do when I am designing. I also created a colorful background for the image so it has a little bit of a creative spin on it, rather than being entirely representative of the original image.
